    Description and Notes
    Fleet data:
The Pegasus is a modified Talon-class Scout build on board the USS Vanguard to replace the destroyed USS Osprey. From the start of the project the Vanguards' chief engineer, Lt. Cmdr. Phillipa Anderson had some modifications to the standard Talon-class in mind. After consulting with Lt. Veal (then the acting CSO of the Vanguard) to account for the needs of the science department the two discovered that they had very much the same ideas and both worked hand in hand to develop the specifications for this new Scout.
Major changes have been made to the tactical systems, most notably the complete lack of microtorpedo launchers. These provided only a marginal advantage in combat situations and where deemed unnecessary on a Scout. The phasers have been upgraded to the stronger Type VI and the two aft phaser arrays have been replaced by a single array with a slightly wider field of fire. This was necessary to make room for the modifications of other systems. These modifications include a M/ARA system with higher power output, the inclusion of impulse thrusters to a slightly downgraded impulse engine (which together propel the Pegasus to higher impulse speeds than a standard Talon) and Type 2 warp nacelles. The increase in available energy allowed the shield generator output to be increased, compared to the regular Talon specifications. Other advantages of the Pegasus include a holocommunications system and stronger long-range and lateral sensors.
    Noteworthy vessels/service records/encounters:
Pegasus, prototype. The only ship built to these specifications so far.

    Nice looking ship

Not a big fan of the class myself, but this write up may lead to me using it in my game at somepoint down the road.

    Good work.

At last a Talon with some teeth. Good idea. May pinch it sometime in the future. I've been thinking of adding a parasite starship to the Wayfarer for scouting purposes. I don't want to use the strike fighter; the Talon is a bit wimpy and the Defiant is too powerful so this may be a good compromise.

See I just use the Delta Flyer.

I find it is a superior vessel that should be mass produced by Starfleet.

    Captain Zymmer

If You are prepared to send the technical specs for the Delta Flyer's Unimatrix shielding and Photonic missilles to Lt Commander Anderson aboard USS Vanguard, Its a deal.

Although, we are a 1000 light years from Federation space, so you had better use Fed Express's overnight delivery service

I suppose I could make a flatpack version. Some assembly required.

A Delta Flyer type vessel might be on the PADDs at some point. Called the Beta Flyer of course, as thats where we are.

But at the moment, I have the CAG and CSO screaming for fighters and a Talon. Oh well, an engineers work is never done.

Well I am sure that if you culd find a way for your EMH to reach us here at Starfleet R&D we could send you an Emergency Engineering Holohgram to help you get everything underway

    LOL

If only we can get the Midas array to communciate with us, we might be able to do something about what you're suggesting.

But the problem is, even though we are in the general direction of VOY @ this point . . . will the Midas array notice if we send a message thier way?

    Good point, good point

Well let's get this one back on topic

I could see this Talon replacing runabouts at high stress areas. Borders, areas with high pirate traffic, etc...

I can see, that, however, what we really need to design is sometype of EW craft . . . for this Peguses may work as a good AEW aircraft. And we've started calling the Type XIII shuttles (the one seen on Insurrection used by Picard) Greyhounds, and consider them like the CODs in a modern Air Wing.

Anyones have any ideas about the EW craft? For not only does it have to hide itself, but hide craft around it as far as sensors go, and on the flipside it has to be able to mess with the enemies Communication capabilities.

Kinda what I'm looking for is a Trek version of the EA-6B Prowler.

But how much room does a Talon take up in a hanger?

Wouldn't it require a reduction of shuttle compelement?

I don't know if this is a good shipboard vessel, but I could be wrong.

Anyone care to straighten me out on this one?

Speaking strictly rules-wise it takes up Sizex2 SU (ie. 4), the same as runabouts, SAFs or almost all shuttles (apart from the tiny shuttlepods and workbees).
If you judge by the physical dimensions of this craft it would certainly take more space than a shuttle, but OTOH SUs are only a tool for game balance and not a representation of actual space taken by a system.

If you feel thats too cheap for carrying such a versatile craft just make it take up more SU.
That's what I do with SAFs in my game. They use up 6 SU of hangar space instead of 4, to account for the larger amount of spares you would carry around for a combat vehicle.

Isn't that what cargo bays are for? Or do you mean special servicing equipment to repair weapons and load its massive load (which I think is overkill) of photon torpedoes.

On the subject of a AEW or Wild Weasel aircraft, my solution was to remove some of the torpedo launchers from the SAF and replace the space saved with sensors and such like. I'm planning to rule that the torpedo tubes on the SAF is a modular system which can be removed and replace much like the Nebula pod to give the SAF more flexibility...one spaceframe, numerous missions.

Yep, that's what I meant - servicing equipment and such. And while some of the cargo bays would be close to the hangars not all of them necessarily are, but for the fighters it makes sense IMHO to keep your spare parts and supplies close at hand, therefore taking up some of the hangar space.

    Cargo Bays

You might be able to shuttles and other fighters in a cargo bay. You have to consider the result of doing that. First you lose space of for unreplicatiable supplies, including supplies for maintaining the shuttles. Second, once you place your shuttles in the cargo holds, it will take time to transfer them back and forth from the shuttle bay. You might cut time by doing preflight inspections in the cargo bays, but most of the equipment is probablely down in the shuttle bay. Shuttle bays usually have a limited amount of hanger space for their ships for a reason. A starship can only support only so many ships.

Jake what vessel are you talking about. You see we're working with an Akira, which has a through-deck flight deck. And with the attached cargo holds, it's really no problem.
