Out of curiosity what televisual treats have the French given the world?

We have all your working biros and we're not afraid to use them.

Do I sense sarcasm here ?

Usually, French TV series are dull policier series (lots and lots of them), or sit-coms plagiarized from their US counterparts. None of them go very far out of the country, thankfully.

Maybe the most known French series was Highlander : the series, a French-Canadian coproduction.
    To my knowledge, anyway.

It looks like sarcasm, tastes like sarcasm ...

Actually, I think at least one of Disney's movies was made by a French team of tooners-or-whatever-is-the-real-name-for-it. Does that count? I guess not, since you asked for televisual ... but it made it on DVD, so you can see it on TV ! Hah!

well at least you're not persecuted for being a gun owner.

And for France and ST, well I think that SW is really big in France and I think the view most Frenchmen have about ST comes from the SW/ST rivalery.

Yes, Highlander: The Series was produced by Gaumont Television.

But, it was based on a film written by an American

I remember watching a French show on CBC (dubbed into English) called Thierry la Fronde, about a French Robin Hood-type outlaw who used a sling, way back in the 1960's.

Bedides Highlander, there have been a number of other Canada/France co-productions, both English-language and French-language.

Ah, but there are some American movies who are based on movies written by French too (True Lies or Three men and a baby come to mind). So we're on par now

I didn't know Thierry la Fronde had been translated. Maybe this is the case for other French series which didn't become famous though.

Besides Highlander, there have been a number of other Canada/France co-productions, both English-language and French-language.
Do you have any examples ? I'd be interested to know.

Uh oh... now we're off topic, are we ?

True enough, since Star Trek was first aired in France around 1985, just in the wake of the Star Wars boom, and it was on a channel who recycled the worst american series it could find (Star Trek must have slipped through somehow). Then, most people started to compare both shows and Star Trek got the worst of it(understandably, since it also had a very bad translation who sometimes made episodes quite incomprehensible).

BTW, I love your description of the geek SW fan (though I guess some ST fans can also fit that description, provided you replace the Darth Vader T shirt with an Khan one )

Ok, now I'll try to stop hijacking this thread.

Here in Georgia, USA, there seem to be plenty of Trekkers and RPG'ers. Though in my small town, that number goes down as the college kids leave for the summer. But that still leaves about 6 or so RPGers, and a couple times that Trekkers, of course, some of them are closet Trekkers, known only to other Trekkers and not to the public.
And I have swords and guns..... buwahahaha!!!
